For one, Ty Willingham sort of knows how to coach. Don't sleep on Charlie Weis getting "the ax" before his tenure at South Bend is done.
Again, I think the reason why Ty got fired in Indiana (which is similar to the reason why Mike Davis got fired) is because Ty was black. Similarly, this is why Tubby Smith is having problems in Kentucky. Don't sleep on racism in the U.S.
I went to the OSU/Bowling Green game today, which was nice in some sense, because I was able to witness the number one team in the country, but not nice in another, in that I couldn't get any homework done. Two things about Ohio State: they love the flanker screen, perhaps unreasonably so, and they don't play much run defense. Don't sleep on Michigan's Mike Hart getting 200 yards come November 18.
Here's one thing about Ohio State's receivers: they sure don't love to catch Justin Zwick's passes. That guy suffered from at least three drops (which, by the way, was very similar to the outcome of his start at the Texas game last year) which cost him two possessions. And these drops were throws that were made directly into his receivers' hands. I think Zwick is a good D-1 QB, and his situation kind of makes me feel bad. Don't sleep on Zwick getting a look in the NFL.
Troy Smith will probably win the Heisman if Ohio State runs the table, which is fine with me, as he's the prototypical athletic college QB. I sort of think he's like Charlie Ward, but my OSU friends seem to think he's first-round material. However, one thing is certain: he's no Brian Brohm, who is obviously the best QB in the country. Don't sleep on my Cards!
I've been thinking about it, though, and it's really hard to judge Troy Smith because of the simple fact that Jim Tressel is the most conservative play-caller in the world once his team gets a decent lead. I have a feeling that if Spurrier were here OSU's offense would score 50 a game. Then again, who cares. Don't lose sleep about it.
Oregon got whupped by Cal. LSU got whupped by Florida, and Arkansas smashed Auburn. Here's the new Top 5: OSU, USC, WV, Florida, Michigan, Texas, Louisville at #7!!!
